If there is one thing I’ve known since growing up, it’s that everything is connected. So why would writing be any different? It’s not, thankfully. This challenge is slightly complicated for me. But I’m going to do my best. Jeff has asked we do it today. And I’ll manage it somewhat today. It is almost 10pm while I write this, though it’ll be posted later. But I can promise I will work on these required connections of today’s challenge. And speaking of today’s challenge, here’s the dirty details:
Find a potential fan, friend, and patron (one of each) and reach out to them. Today. Don’t ask for anything but this person’s time. Don’t say no for them or apologize. Just ask.
Make it an invitation to coffee (if a local connection) or to Skype. Do it and do it now before you lose your nerve.
Then tell us how it went.
So the friend part is easy. Even with his mention prior to this in his post that it needed to be someone on the same path as you. A couple of my team mates here at Indigo Creations are aiming for the stars with their writing ambitions. Definitely good friends and good motivators for each other.
Potential fan? Could be a bit more complicated. Jeff doesn’t specify whether the potential fan can be a friend or family member also. If so, got potential fan covered! Two of my team mates that have read the raw beginning to my novel are mad there isn’t more they were so into it. But if it can’t be a friend, I’ll have to work on that.
Now – Patron is a little harder. “These people — leaders and influencers in your industry — will help you grow your platform and get your message heard.” Jeff makes it sound so easy when he tells us that. But it’s not. I don’t even know where to begin with obtaining a patron! I’ll be working on it, though! Maybe I can use some of the techniques mentioned in the book “4-Hour Workweek” by Tim Ferriss that I’m currently reading. That’s an idea, actually. I need to just figure out a patron I want to contact and do it. That’s all there is to it. Right?
So… who wants to be a potential fan?! I’ll let you read a sneak peek of the novel concept I’m working on. Completely raw, though. Rough and no edits yet. Be brave!
